WEEKEND CAKES: 4/24-25

Hi - it was a fairly light week ... call it the calm before the storm.

In addition to meeting with 3 clients on Sunday, it was time for Megan and Jeremy's wedding ... read about them in the Wedding: Vosburgh-O'Heron 4/24 post.

Also created this Baptism cake which was brought to the reception site. This customer lives in the Athens area and I was heading to Winder .... it was easier for her to pick it up in Winder than coming all the way to my place. It was a slate blue color with dark fudge accent and white dots.

I'm late to get these posted, enjoy the rest of the week .. watch for more photo's after Saturday. My schedule is beginning to get busy ....

PROFESSIONAL PICS ARE IN !!!

Hi - please go check out the WEDDING: Williams-Karolyi, Michael C. Carlos Museum, 4/17/10 Wedding post.

Every once in a while, I get to meet a new "gem" out there in this wedding industry. Jeff Roffman is one of those gems. I had never heard of him, he had never heard of me, but I can't wait to work with him again. I couldn't decide which of the cake pictures to put up on the blog, so I put them all up. He made my cakes look amazing. If you are still looking for a photographer ... please contact Jeff Roffman at jmroffman@gmail.com, 404/437-7437, www.jeffroffmanphotography.com

Thanks for the quick turnaround, Jeff.

WEDDING: Vosburgh-O'Heron, Winder Community Center, 4/24/10

This was my second delivery to the Winder Community Center ... The exterior of the Community Center does not disclose what gem is hidden inside. When you walk into the reception area, the dark hardwood floors, that are so shiny they look wet, are beautiful. Add twinkle lights on the ceiling and plenty of room to create the reception of your dream and you've got yourself one heck of a reception venue. For those of you in the Athens/Winder area ..... it won't hurt to check it out.

Megan Vosburgh and Jeremy O'Heron met with me at the end of January. After going thru my portfolio, she decided on the fat dot design (which I really need to come up with a name for .. all suggestions welcome). Her cake fed 172 and were alternating tiers of Lemon or Vanilla cake filled with a variety of flavors ... vanilla buttercream, strawberry buttercream, raspberry, and chocolate mousse. A black ribbon went around the base of each tier.

Jeremy is an Alabama Crimson Tide fan. The last time I had created the Crimson Tide design was about 3 or 4 years ago. His cake was chocolate filled with fresh sliced strawberries. Yum!

Congratulations, Megan and Jeremy.

5/20/10 - Just got notice from their photographer that pro shots are available, but her price for a 4x6 shot of the brides cake is just too high. Not to mention that the photographer did not even take a picture of the groom cake. I hope to receive a copy when the bride gets the rights to her photo's. Until then, enjoy my shot of their cake.

WEDDING: Williams-Karolyi, Michael C. Carlos Museum, 4/17/10

I always knew my cakes belonged in a museum ... LOL !!! The Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory was the site of Carrie Williams and Dan Karolyi's reception. It's a unique venue to say the least.

When Carrie first contacted me, I was already reserved to another bride for her date and time frame. The only way I could create her cake was for her to allow me to design/decorate the cake (of course), but have an associate of mine deliver and set it up. Carrie agreed.

She knew exactly what she wanted ... and when I saw the cake I fell in love with the design too . You could say that the cake matched her shoes. The cake was covered in (my) hand-crafted icing roses. It took a me total of 7 hours to create the roses.

The wedding cake was Almond cake filled with alternating layers of Raspberry or Amaretto.

Can you guess how many roses are on this cake? There are 368 !!! 98 on the top cake, 120 on the middle cake, and 150 on the bottom cake.

Dan was all about Georgia Tech's Buzz ... Buzz was hand drawn on a chocolate cake filled w/ Bailey's. So cute !!!

WEDDING: Foster-Williams, Reunion Hall, 4/17/10

I love this venue. Reunion Hall is in Hoschton (Hooshton) and reminds me of home (New England). It's easy to get to and the staff are very nice and helpful. It was the site of Nicole Foster and Andrew Williams wedding and reception.

Nicole and Drew's wedding ceremony was right out front and while everyone was waiting for Nicole to make her entrance, there was lots going on inside. When I met Nicole, she had decided on a great cake design ..... but while waiting for her big day to arrive, she was browsing my blog and found a cake design that I call "The Mayan" and fell in love with it. The entire cake is encased in a "cage" of curly willow. This is one of those designs that looks different every time I create it. It all depends on the floral used. It's a great cake.

Drew's cake is called "All Cracked Up".

Congratulations, Nicole and Drew.

Will post pro pics as soon as I receive them from Melissa Pepin Photography (along w/ her contact info).

WEEKEND CAKES: 4/8-11

Two weddings and a Baptism cake this week.

The first wedding of the week went out on Thursday to The Atrium in Norcross. You tend to find a $$$ deal at venue's when you marry during the week vs. the weekend. Watch for the Reese-Hebert wedding post to appear.

The second wedding cake of the week was delivered on Saturday to the Old Decatur Courthouse. Watch for the Balachandran-Bradley wedding post to appear.

Then, Sunday morning, I delivered this sweet baptism cake to Lawrenceville.

Another busy week is ahead.

WEDDING: Balachandran-Bradley, Old Decatur Courthouse, 4/10/10

Clay was busy with church responsibilities this weekend, so Connie and Delores gave me a hand delivering this one. As a vendor, I'm not so wild about the Old Decatur Courthouse. There is only one (old) elevator, and very limited parking ... but, once you get inside and upstairs to the white/grey marble ballroom ... you are sold !!! It makes a beautiful venue for a wedding.

Kavitha Balachandran and Hunter Bradley met with me about a year before their wedding. Kavitha knew exactly what her cake would look like. We call it "Henna Heaven" !!! I had no experience with Henna designs, so Kavitha periodically sent me "inspiration" .... she sent me the henna design that was to be placed on her hands; and other photo's. So I took a few designs from here and there and created this specifically for her. It was a bright Maroon, burnt orange, and teal in color and it took five hours to put the design on the cake.

I got to see Kavitha and Hunter when I went back later that evening for the plateau. The joint was jumpin'!!! and Kavitha and Hunter looked so happy.

Wishing you every happiness !!!

Thanks for the quick turnaround on the cake shot, Jamie Howell.
In fact, Kavitha and Hunter's wedding was so colorful .. all of their pictures are great.

WEDDING: Reese-Hebert, The Atrium, 4/8/10

The Thursday wedding of Lindsey Reese and Jordan Hebert brought me to The Atrium, a former bank, now a two story glass ballroom located in Historic Downtown Norcross.

I didn't meet this bride until her wedding day. I was contacted a couple of weeks back by her mom (Marie) and her Grandmother. Lindsey's wedding day was originally scheduled for September, but for some reason it got moved up to April. Although they had everything all set for a September wedding, it was time to scramble and find a new venue and new vendors for an April wedding.

They called one morning and asked to meet with me that same afternoon. I explained that I would not have time to bake a taste cake for them, but they came over anyway.

After a great conversation and a few laughs, we decided on the design, and their order was placed on my schedule. Because of the high ceilings of The Atrium, the wedding cake could be nice and tall .... so the bottom layer is fake, everything else was a white cake filled with either Amaretto buttercream or Strawberry Cream Cheese (yum).

Wishing Lindsey and Jordan every happiness.

This was a much lighter week than last ..... it started with Easter cupcakes for Karibeth. These will be filed in the HELLO CUPCAKE category.

Ann and Ryan married on Friday, 4/2 ... this small two tiered cake was perfect for the event. Watch for the Johnson wedding write up.

Saturday brought a delivery to Brookstone Country Club for the wedding and reception of Alison and Jeff. Watch for the Pahon-Kaczmarski wedding write up.

HAPPY EASTER to you. A busy week is ahead.

WEDDING: Pahon-Kaczmarski, Brookstone Country Club, 4/3/10

Alison Pahon and Jeff Kaczmarski met with me back in July of '09. Their wedding and reception were held at Brookstone Gold and Country Club in Acworth ... and it was a gorgeous day !!!

Picture a reception colored in black and hot pink .... it was gorgeous. Carla Duncan (On Occasions of Atlanta) and her team created gorgeous centerpieces of submerged pink orchids ... lime green orchids / hot pink roses / white hydrangea / pale pink orchids and my favorite decor item ... black feathers.

No, your eyes aren't fooling you ... don't adjust the color of your computer screen .... it's really a pink cake !!!!!

I had been so excited about creating this cake ... telling everyone who would listen ... it's going to have feathers .. and it's going to be pink !!!

Raul, of Studio-519 did a great job with the wedding photo's.

Congratulations, Alison and Jeff. Thank you for letting play with the design of your cake.

Ann Johnson and Ryan Wilson lived next door to each other .... now they live under the same roof. Ann is a member of my Church

NO RESPONSE? GIVE ME A CALL .......

Now that wedding season has arrived ... this is the time when I realize I could use a secretary. I'm in the kitchen ... a lot .... so, if you've sent me an email and I haven't responded to you within 48 hours ... one of two things happened ... your email got buried in my in-basket; or I'm in the kitchen and haven't seen it yet.

So, if you are anxious to speak with me to find out my availability or just to ask a quick question, please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Unless I'm in a meeting with a client (or out running a quick errand), I would be more than happy to speak with you.

Talk to you soon !!!
