WEDDING: Diaz-Reyes, Vines Mansion, 8/18/13

BRIDE:  Libby Diaz
GROOM:  Raul Reyes
VENUE:  Vines Mansion, Loganville

Vines Mansion - large or small, they can handle your wedding.  Located in Loganville, just off 78.  The grounds around this home are absolutely gorgeous.

Libby and Raul met with me back in March and signed with me on the spot.  What really won me their cake order was when their daughter Naomi tasted the cakes and decided that I just had to create her birthday cake in November ... chocolate, of course.

Libby looked like a princess in her gown, Raul very handsome.  Tiffany Blue was the pop color of their wedding ... even many of their guests wore that color as well.  Libby liked a different design on each tier so we did the usual single dot design on the top, their monogram on the 2nd tier, the quilt design on the third, and we changed it a bit by adding a variegated rosette on the fourth.  LOVED how it came out.  I'm anxious to receive the professional photo from David Scruggs.

WEDDING: Thomas-Till, King Plow, 8/10/13

BRIDE:  Lauren Thomas
GROOM:  Tyler Till
VENUE:  King Plow

The wedding planner said it best .... "it's clients like Lauren and Tyler who make you realize why we love doing what we do".  She is absolutely correct.  I couldn't agree more.  Every vendor hired by this couple went over and above for them.  That says an awful lot about them both.

Lauren and Tyler met at Auburn University.  Auburn had to be a part of their wedding somehow.  So Tyler's groom cake was centered around Auburn's Camp War Eagle.   They were both Camp Counsellors.  Lauren's group followed her "popcorn" banner and Tyler's group followed his "Mr. T" banner.  All Tyler wanted was a cake with a cookie on top of it ... that's what he got ... a chocolate cake with a chocolate chip cookie cut to fit the top of the cake. I had a friend of mine create the two figurines for them as a surprise.

Now the wedding cake ..... just look at this cake display.  Just beautiful.  The Cross was created by a family friend and will hang in the couple's livingroom.  This was the first time succulents have been added to one of my cakes .. I LOVE SUCCULENTS ON A CAKE!

I sincerely wish Lauren and Tyler a lifetime of happines.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play such an important role on your special day.

I'm a Little Late with my posts ....

If anyone tells you that the month of June is the "wedding month" ... they are incorrect.  It used to be, but for the past couple of years, the month of May has taken that title.

May/June were crazy months for this cake lady.  In July, I have had time to rest and recuperate and will begin to update the blog soon.  So watch for the following wedding posts to appear:

WEDDING: Pearl-Smith, Glendalough Manor, 5/20/13

Glendalough Manor, Tyrone
BRIDE:  Roshanda "Ro" Pearl
GROOM:  Jamel Smith
VENUE:  Glendalough Manor, Tyrone

A Monday is an unusual day to have a wedding, but then again if you think about it ... instead of having a long weekend start on a friday ... it can end on a Monday.  There's a good chance that the venue will work with you on the rental fees.

I met Ro and Jamel back in September 2012.  She had a pretty good idea of what her cake was going to look like.  Jamel is a UGA fan, so his groom cake design was a piece of cake (no pun intended).

When I arrived at Glendalough, Jamel was just walking around ... he wasn't nervous, a little anxious perhaps .. but every chance he got he headed to the windows ... perhaps to take a sneak peek of his sweetie (who was having photo's taken outside).  Everyone (vendors/wait staff/family/friends) would catch him every time.  He of course would deny trying to see Ro, but we didn't believe him.

Much happiness to you both, Ro and Jamel.

WEDDING: Kim-Law, Old Decatur Courthouse, 5/18/13

Old Decatur Courthouse
BRIDE:  Seunghyun Kim
GROOM:  Peter Law
VENUE:  Old Decatur Courthouse
I knew I had met a very special couple when I met Seunghyun (pronounced Sin Yun) and Peter back in September 2012.  They didn't have a definite idea for their cake design, but wanted to incorporate an element of their invitation onto the cake.  That is exactly what we did.  The color palette was grey and pink ... so we created a white cake with a grey ribbon border and pink design.  We were going to put floral on the top, but I asked if I could design their topper .. a larger version of the decorative element of their cake.  So I had my Sous Chef, Kelli trace and create their topper.  It was perfect.

My sincere wish for a lifetime of happiness, Seunghyun and Peter.

WEDDING: Miller-Rohan, Garden Hills Recreation Center, 5/18/13

BRIDE:  Sara Miller
GROOM:  Joel Rohan
VENUE:  Garden Hills Recreation Center

I met Sara and Joel back in August 2012.  I had never heard of their venue, but they were so excited to tell me all about it.  It's a little gem smack in the middle of the city.  Rustic.  Perfect.  Take the classic old fashioned icing technique, put the cake on a tree crosscut, add a rustic topper and you've got the perfect cake.

Congratulations, Sara and Joel.

WEDDING: Santora-Gwinn, Four Oaks Manor, 5/17/13

Four Oaks Manor
BRIDE:  Michelle Santora
GROOM:  Michael Gwinn
VENUE:  Four Oaks Manor, Hamilton Mill

I had created Michelle's sisters wedding cake in 2011, so I was honored when Michelle asked me to create her wedding cake as well.

Grey and Pink is a lovely (and popular) combination.  Love the two birds on the top ... I believe they were ordered from England.  The groom cake design was a surprise for Michael ... Georgia Tech is his favorite team so a larger than usual football was created with a larger than usual Buzz.  Take a close look at the front left of the cake and you'll see a tiny Bulldog peeping out from the grass.   LOL

BRIDE:  Beth Hoffman
GROOM:  Jason Loudermilk
VENUE:  Hilton Garden Inn, Downtown Atlanta

Beth walked in to our initial meeting with the cover photo of a Southern Living Weddings Magazine and said "this is the cake I want" ... in Yellow.

This cake was a little time consuming, but so worth it.  Can see it in any color combination, can't you? Special thanks go to my "petal-lettes" (those responsible for making the individual petals for this cake).

I've received so many nice comments about this cake already.

WEDDING: Moore-Kingsley, Rustix Manor, 5/4/13

Rustix Manor
BRIDE:  Morgan Moore
GROOM:  Michael Kingsley
VENUE:  Rustix Manor, Woodstock

I've known Morgan for some time now, she plays with flowers for Stylish Stems, making brides happy every weekend ... well today, it was Morgan's turn to be the happy bride. I've only seen Morgan in a pair of jeans and a work shirt, so when I saw her in her wedding gown, I cried.  She looked so beautiful.

Morgan cake was all about texture ... she is the first to mix the upward ruffle and an old fashioned technique.  It came out gorgeous .. and just look at the flowers I had to work with from Stylish Stems.  Those orange roses were enormous .. yellow roses, snapdragons, curly willow, button mums, billy balls and my favorite, Fiddlehead Ferns.

Michael is a major Georgia fan so I had to create a Georgia helmet.  Check out the backdrop for his cake .. handmade by Kathy (mother-in-law) and Morgan.  Lots of love went into that.

I wish Morgan and Michael an eternity of nothing but happiness.

WEDDING: Moore-Sakurai, Payne-Corley House, 4/28/13

BRIDE:  Sarah Moore
GROOM:  Tetsuro Sakurai
VENUE:  Payne-Corley House, Duluth

I never got the pleasure to meet the groom, but I did have the pleasure of meeting Sarah (the bride) and her sister Katie.  These two girls have to be the nicest on the planet.  That's all there is to it.  At our first meeting, Sarah brought me a gift (scrumptious cookies from Japan) ... just for taking time to meet with them. Subsequent meetings yielded warm friendship hugs.  It was a tough decision, but an all over scroll design was decided on for the cake.

About 3 weeks prior to the wedding, I received an email from Sarah (now located in Tokyo) exploring the possibility of changing the design.  After numerous emails, sketches, attachments, and conversation, the design was changed.  This is my version of an Art Nouveau styled wedding cake - incorporating the wedding invitation design with birds: cranes/swallows and a faint pink cherry blossom to add a little Japanese touch.  I believe it came out beautifully and can't wait to see and receive the professional images.

BRIDE:  Misty Yost

GROOM:  Alan Ashby
VENUE:  Private Residence

Misty, Alan, and Hayden (son) came to meet with me in February.  Hayden was "sold" after the first bite!

Their wedding was held at the Little Chapel in Norcross, but the party was held at a private residence.  So in we go with 7 dozen cupcakes and a top cake for the cutting ceremony.  I was very excited to see her coordinator, Danielle Bolin, who had moved away from the area for a while, but I'm thrilled to say is back where she belongs.

I got to see Misty before the ceremony .. she had stopped in after getting her hair done.  She looked lovely.

WEDDING: Colon-Yarbrough, John Oliver Michael House, 4/20/13

BRIDE:  Christina Colon
GROOM:  Andy Yarbrough
VENUE:  John Oliver Michael House, Statham

The groom is the brother of one of my former brides, Jessica.  Tina and Andy came to meet with me back in February.  They wanted a very small (three tier) cake with a little kitchen cake for extra servings.  Rustic was their theme and you can't get any more rustic than burlap - twine - and a crosscut of a tree.  I love this design, notice the twine tied around the center of the burlap into a little bow.  I've got to find out where they got that adorable personalized hot air balloon topper.  Love it!

BRIDE:  Laura Beauchamp
Country Club of the South
GROOM:  Danny Guigou
VENUE:  Country Club of the South

I think I was more excited to create the Groom's cake than I was to create the wedding cake.

Don't get me wrong, the wedding cake was gorgeous.  Love cakes with a different design on each tier, but it was the groom's cake that I was anxious to create ... especially with the awesome season the Atlanta Braves are having right now !!!

I enjoy going to the Country Club of the South.  Their staff is always very nice, and very helpful.  Can't say that for every venue I go to ...  I even got to rub elbows with the infamous Banks & Shane (who were the entertainment for the reception).  They are both very nice guys and it was great to see them again.  A friend told me that Paul Shane lives close to them and they go see them play often ... sounds like an open invitation to me !!!

WEDDING: Vinson-Knight, The Variety Works, 4/7/13

BRIDE:  Lauren Vinson
Variety Works, Madison, GA
GROOM:  Rusty Knight
VENUE:  The Variety Works

It was one of the loveliest weather days in April.  Bright sun, blue skies with a few clouds, and warm temps.  We headed to The Variety Works in Madison.  We had been there once before (back in October).  Love this venue.  They were using my cake plateau so Clay and I had to stay in the area for a while in order to return after the cake cutting to grab the plateau and head home.

I met Lauren (along w/ her mom Terry) on February 11th.  After some discussion, Lauren decided on the upward ruffle design ... the color would be a cream to pink ombre.  I love creating this design.  The hardest thing is figuring out the start and ending coloring ... making sure not to add too much color to mess up the continuous shading. I got to see Lauren when I went back to pick up the plateau ... she loved her cake.

Rusty's nickname is BEAR ... so we created the Rusty Bear groom cake for him.  It came out cute and I hope he was pleased with it.
