We love placing our cakes in art galleries ... after all, what we create is edible art !!! When we arrived at Mason Murer, the joint was jumpin' with vendors getting ready for this big event. Drapes were being hung, place cards were being arranged ....

This 5-tier elegant cake had lots of "glitz" .... Juanda (the bride) provided three brooch's that were attached to thick width pewter colored ribbon ... a glitzy "R" monogram was placed on the top ... and the two other tiers were dotted with silver dragee's (edible beads). So very pretty.

Our first of two deliveries for the day ....

When Beth (the bride) first saw her cake as an image on my camera, she said "Eileen, it's just like my dress ... it's stunning!" and it was. I absolutely can not wait to see the pro pics of this one. Nancy spent two days working on the oh so thin petals that were dusted with a silver shimmer. Beth provided a beautiful brooch that served as the center of the flower.

Now the groom's cake .... totally different !!! Who doesn't like Krispy Kreme donuts and miniature Cannoli's ? It was tough layering the donuts as the powdered donuts were heavier than the glazed weighed more than the glazed .. cake vs. air ... next time I would suggest using only glazed donuts.

Beth and Ben make an adorable couple and I wish them much happiness.

This marks our first wedding of 2012 and the cake will grace the cover of our 2012 portfolio. Thanks to Caycee Callaway (photography) for the quick photo turnaround.

Congratulations to Tracey and Mark who started the year off with their wedding (1/1/12) at The Wimbish House. Tracey looked beautiful. I got a chance to hug her before she went down the stairs to Mark, told her to breathe and to have fun.

This 4-tier beauty was bordered in a pewter ribbon that matched the bridesmaid dress with a bright gold ribbon centered. Two small cascades of white roses, hydrangea, lambs ear, and dusty miller finished the cake beautifully.

Eileen Carter
Being new to the Atlanta area and looking for something to do on the
weekends, Eileen started baking and bringing her cakes to the office on Mondays. After several "Eileen... can you bake me a......" from her co-workers, she started charging for her culinary creations. The "Cake Lady" quickly became well known and recognized in the Atlanta Wedding Industry. In 2004 she married Clay Carter, left her Corporate environment and Eileen Carter Creations was born. Eileen has been the recipient of WeddingWire's Brides Choice Award for the past five consecutive years and The Knot's Best of Weddings for the past four consecutive years, not to mention her many publications in National and local magazines.

Nancy Short
Nancy's journey to the culinary world came to her quite by surprise. Nancy underwent a Liver Transplant in 2005 and during her recovery took a Wilton cake decorating class at Michael's. That was it ... Nancy found her niche in life and it's been a whirlwind ride ever since. She moved to Atlanta and attended Le Cordon Bleu, graduating at the top of her class and is now known as Chef Nancy. It seems she has always had her heart and hands in the culinary world though. For years she competed on the Memphis in May and Kansas City Bar-B-Q Circuits and then became a certified judge for each circuit.

Recently, an opportunity presented itself that made me ask "Who can I work with to create tasteful and beautiful cakes? Who can help me change the cakeworld? Who compliments my skill set? Who would my skills compliment? Who has similar goals and vision that I do?

I am pleased to announce the collaboration between Eileen Carter Creations and The Flour Shoppe. I have moved my shop out of my home and am now in a commercial environment. We are still in the process of organizing and setting up the shop, and baking up a storm. I hope to have everything put in its place by the Holidays.

I am still Eileen Carter Creations .... Nancy still has The Flour Shoppe .... but when we work together on a cake or catering an event we become Flour Creations.

My strengths are Nancy's weaknesses ..... Nancy's strengths are my weaknesses ... and together we are a force to reckon with in the cake industry. I'm so excited for this new endeavor and partnership and hope that you will be too.

Delivery #2 of the day:

I'm heading up 75 (because that is what the directions told me) ... and it wasn't until I got onto Cobb Parkway when I said to my husband (aka Mr. D.O.T), why am I heading to Marietta when I need to be in Roswell. He said: there are two Mimosa Boulevards .... one in Marietta; one in Roswell ...... so I turn around and fly like a mad woman. I was only 10 minutes late. Pat (the coordinator at Great Oaks) welcomed me and said "no worries .. I knew you would be here). Thanks Pat !!!

Joe named this cake "Papillon" (1973 Steve McQueen movie/butterfly tattoo/freedom). Katie was another bride who knew exactly what her cake would look like. A white flat finish adorned with the most beautiful silk butterflies. Thank you Katie (and Joe) for allowing me to create this cake for you. I can't wait to see the professional photos from Kara.

I didn't get to see Katie, but Joe came by to check out the cake .... I asked where his voice went ... he apparently had too much fun the night before and his voice was very hoarse. Clay went to find Reverend Deanna Lancaster .... it's always a pleasure to see her and I always get the best hug from her and after my day of delivering .. I really needed that hug.

She mentioned that she might cry during the ring ceremony ..... Joe wrote the following:

"The rings that Joe and Katie will place and present to each other today, in fact, were placed on the loving hands of Katie’s parents over 40 years ago on their wedding day. Katie’s father Dick passed away this past year, but his spirit & now his symbol of lasting love, will live on with Joe. Lou Ann can now pass her symbol of lasting love onto Katie, to remind her that her marriage may not always be perfect, but your love for each other is."

I've got tears in my eyes ... don't know how Rev. D made it through this ring ceremony !!! She did get a little misty during the scripture readings, however. There is a lot of love around this couple.

I had been so looking forward to this weekend. I had two cakes to create ... two very different designs ... both gorgeous.

Our first delivery resulted in my adding one more question to the final details email that I send out to my brides: What room is your reception in?

It was good to be back at the Georgian Terrace .. hadn't been there in years. When we arrived at the loading dock, I asked security which room the Cook wedding was in ... he said: The Grand Ballroom. We even got a personal escort. When we got everything ready to set up the cake, I looked around the room and something didn't feel right .... Amanda's colors were Navy and Ivory ... the sashes on the chairs were ivory, but I didn't notice the Navy details .. so I went up to the room coordinator and asked, is this the correct room for the Cook wedding? He said "Yes", so Becky and I began constructing the cake. We were almost done when a gentleman (guest) asked "is this the Miller wedding?" I said "No, it's the Cook wedding" He said "well, the sign outside says Miller". PANICK ..... I went back to the room coordinator and asked again: "Is this the Cook wedding?" He said, "I already told you once ..." I said "well check again, because that guy over there said it was the Miller wedding". He looked and what do you know .,. he was incorrect, I had the cake set up in the WRONG ROOM. Luckily, this was a 3 tier cake and Becky grabbed the cake and walked it down to the right room. I followed with all of our supplies/boxes and the room was a perfect match to the cake. Lots of Navy. The cake looked gorgeous in it's right place.

Back to the truck to deliver cake #2 .....

I met with Amanda back in May ... she definitely knew what her cake would look like. Three tiers, the second higher than the top and bottom ... an ivory exterior, navy blue beads (which were navy sixlets ... chocolate candies), navy blue and ivory floral. I am quite pleased at how this cake turned out. Definitely a statement cake.

Congratulations to Amanda and Tony. See you on your 1st Anniversary !!!

Agnes Scott College ... what a beautiful campus ! While Becky and I were working on the cakes, Clay was out walking the campus. He fell in love with it.

The cake tasting was a family affair ... the bride, Linnet, her brother, her mom, her dad, and the groom, Brendan. In the middle of our tasting, Dad got up, walked right into my kitchen, opened cabinets looking for glasses, and brought out water for everyone (something I should have done). I fell in love with Linnet's mom and dad right away. In fact, when I got the word that they were choosing me to create the cakes, dad said that it was because he knew I would make them with love.

So, when I returned to pick up the plateau at the end of their night, I went looking for both mom and dad and got the biggest hugs from both. I love my job.

Linnet's cake was hexagon in shape with an all-over swirl design. Julie Coffin (florist) left me a bunch of gorgeous floral so that I could create a full cascade. I think it came out great and can't wait to see the pro shots.

Brendan's cake had to be huge and had to be the continent of Australia (not excluding Tasmania).

Linnet and Brendan now make their home in Australia, but I hope to see them in a year or so for their first anniversary. Best wishes to you both.

I met both Nora and Dave a little less than a month before their wedding. Nora knew exactly what she wanted her cake to look like. Clean lines, flat finish, bead border. That is exactly what she got. A touch of floral on the top and you have an elegant cake.

Our second delivery of the day, but my first trip to Ventanas. WOW! What a view and what a venue. It's lofty, edgy, gorgeous.

Lisa had been on my books since November 2010. Her cake is a prime example of how to take a simple design and pump it up with floral and feathers. There are few florists that I allow to place floral on my cakes .... Heather Oliver is one and I absolutely love her/her work. It came out awesome and I can't wait to share the professional photos with you as my photo doesn't do it justice.

The groom cake was a surprise to Eric and was kept out of sight and in the kitchen until it was time for the cake cutting ceremony ... Chicago Bears football and Maker's Mark .... it was a hit !!

So, off to Athens we go to deliver our first of three weddings .... this lovely 4-tier beauty had that old fashioned icing technique that is so popular ... always makes for an elegant look. The floral (provided by Always Always Floral in Athens) really added to this cake.

The groom cake ... well what can you say about chocolate and chocolate with chocolate covered strawberries ... 'nuff said. Look close for the Bride (gown) and Groom (tuxedo) strawberries. Too cute!

Ambient studios ... Billed as the largest photographer's studio in Atlanta, it's interior is full of natural light (great for photos), hardwood floors, and its open atmosphere is perfect for wedding ceremonies/receptions. It's the exterior that I had issues with .... I (my knee) found the largest pothole. OUCH ! I fell so hard that a lady driving by who saw me fall actually stopped her car and got out to see if I was ok !!! Just call me Grace ..... : )

Caron is the sister of one of my February 2009 brides, Emily. They may favor each other in looks, but their styles are very different. This has to be one of my favorite cakes of the year ... absolutely LOVED how the wedding cake came out. Notice how the second tier is a couple of inches higher than the others. Really sets it off. LOVED that it was placed in an elevator shaft with filtered light pouring all over it.

Adam had quite a challenge for me. He wanted a chocolate chip cookie as his groom cake, but he also wanted it to have the shape of a skateboard, and he also wanted Marvel comic characters, and make the wheels from Krispy Kreme donuts. I chuckled as he bowed to me .. he was THRILLED at how the groom cake/cookie came out ... so was I.

Whether it's the Imperial or the Georgian Ballroom, The Biltmore Hotel is a premier venue for your event.

Oh, my aching wrist and forearm .... This 5-tier beauty had handmade royal icing roses on every other tier. I have no idea how many I created for this cake, but can tell you that there are 162 on the top tier alone. How many for the whole cake? Your guess is as good as mine !

It poured buckets in Atlanta this day. Becky, my assistant, was soaked by the time she finished bringing in the cakes. It was all worth it however ... the cake came out great and stood tall. Loved the alternating Roses and wide spaced dot design on this cake. No floral required.

The groom was a major fan of the Atlanta falcons (there seems to be lots of them (fans) as my clients) .

Enjoyed seeing two of my favorite Atlanta chefs ... Drew and Jason of Endive Catering who explained to us all the separate stations that the guests would enjoy.

It's always a pleasure to bring a cake to Primrose Cottage in Roswell.

One of the most colorful weddings I've seen this year. This bride even went so far as to hand create origami cranes and place them on toothpicks for the dozen or so cupcakes. If you look close at the cake photo, you'll see strings of origami birds hanging in the window ... it was gorgeous. She did a great job. Two wedding ceremonies took place; the first was Korean, the second American. Lily dressed in authentic Korean clothing and when I spoke with both of them Sung remarked how silly he felt in the hat he was wearing. The American ceremony was more traditional (gown/tux). The cake colors were offwhite, and hues of blue to green (think peacock feather) ... A thousand royal icing buds were made and placed on the cake and I've saved some for their first anniversary cake.

Love bringing cakes to the Country Club of the South. It's close to home and a beautiful venue.

There are two metal choices when accenting your cake table ... silver and gold. Sometimes gold can look a bit "tacky", but in this case, this bride did the gold correctly and it looked terrific. The monogram was gold, ribbon = gold, cake plateau = gold. Very different, very unique. Good job.

An all-0ver swirl design with a gold ribbon at the base of each tier made this 5-tier beauty stand out. Accent with red floral and you've got a pretty cake.

VENDORS: I never received the list of vendors, but did learn the name of the photographer and have requested a link to the photo's when ready. I have not heard from her yet, but as soon as I receive the photo will post the pro shot for all to see.

I met Corine and Adam back in March ... when I asked them who their photographers were, they told me it was Ray and Erica of 35 Atlanta ..... we chit chatted a bit more and that is when I learned that Adam was the Adam/Amber Photography Team of 35 Atlanta!! How cool is that !!!

We needed a tall cake (but not all the cake a tall cake makes). So a 5-tier was created with an uneven texture, bordered in royal blue and black ribbon. A multi-loop bow was the perfect touch along with a little floral here and there.

Adam spotted me as I was leaving with the cake plateau (at the end of their night) and gave me a huge hug and thanked me ..... that meant alot.

Best wishes Corine and Adam .... see you on your 1st anniversary .. and Adam, I'm sure I'll run into you in the near future at fine wedding venues everywhere.

It was so nice to be back at Rhodes Hall ... such character this venue has. I love the dark wood and the stained glass. They could use some help with fingerprints on the mirrors, but it always makes for a fantastic venue.

It was an overcast, rainy day ... but the rain stopped long enough for Meagan and Peter to say their vows on the front lawn. Meagan was a stunning bride and I wish I could have seen Peter's face when he got a look at her !!!

Here's an example of having the look of a 4-tier cake, but not all the cake a 4-tier provides. The third layer was fake. Classic single dot and ribbon design, beautiful floral on the top.

I had never heard of this venue before and was anxious to see it, so when we arrived I took a little extra time to check it out. It has great potential. An 8,000 Sq. foot blank palette for you to come in and decorate as needed. It's huge and you can hold both your ceremony and reception in one place.

I'm so looking forward to receiving the pro shot of this cake. The top tier was based on the wedding gown detail, and the shot of purple (ribbon) with a gorgeous brooch just added to its magnificence. I had issues with the table that the cake was on .. not sure where it came from, but it was crooked ... the feet were planted on the floor, it wabbled at the top where the top of the table meets the stem of the table and there was nothing I could do to fix it. Every time we went near the table, the table slanted ... making the cake look slanted. I wish I could have put a fence around it to guard it from folks coming up to touch (and slant) the table, but I couldn't.

I didn't meet Kevin until his wedding day, but met Jessica a couple of times. She was a hands-on bride .... provided the music, floral, she even made her cake plateau out of a styrofoam round for height, a piece of glass, and beautiful material. She looked stunning on her wedding day. Check out their get-away car that was parked outside.

I met Tressa in 1990. She was 5 years old. I've seen the best of Tressa through school, acne, boyfriends, frizzy hair, and super gluing her foot to the floor (yes, it's true). Then one day, she met Rich and we knew this was a special relationship. On July 3rd, I had the honor of creating her wedding cake.

Tressa chose a 4-tier cake with a simple dot design, bordered in black ribbon with lavender floral on top along with an "M" monogram.

Rich is an avid "A" class tennis player ... so an ALTA tennis court was in order for his groom cake.

I wish Tressa and Rich much love and happiness for a lifetime.

I met Yashica and Jason about a year before their big day. Both Yashica and Jason are very tall and standing next to them at 5' 1" I am very short.

Festivities began Friday night with the rehearsal dinner at The Loft. Nine dozen cupcakes (Strawberry, Lemon, White, and Carrot) were prepared for that event.

The wedding cake turned out great. Navy ribbon on alternating layers ... with bows and brooch's (a nice trend) ... Navy dots on the other layers. Yashica was very pleased.

Jason's cake was all about chocolate ... chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream frosted with chocolate fudge and adorned with chocolate covered tuxedo strawberries ..... YUM! He hugged my neck (he's like a large teddy bear) and said "thanks for making our day so special". That means an awful lot to me.

This was my first visit to The Loft ..... everyone was so nice. A special shout out to Alecia (Security guard) for watching the truck during deliveries both Friday and Saturday. Only wish she could have stopped the parking police from giving me that ticket !!! : (

This bride knew who all of her vendors were going to be from the very beginning ... She put together quite an incredible team.

When choosing a venue like the Biltmore ... GO BIG for your wedding cake !!! The ceilings are very high. Courtney didn't need 5 tiers worth of cake, so we made one fake, bringing the amount of servings down to the appropriate size ... but she still had the big look of a 5 tier.

The wedding cake design changed a little from the day she signed with me until the day I delivered. It was always going to be 5 tiers, but we removed a design, kept it smooth, elegant, and added an additional bow. LOVE LOVE LOVE this cake. It was so pretty. Can't wait to see the pro shot of it.

Celebrating Miguel's heritage, the Flag of Mexico was a terrific design for his groom cake.

Sydney met with me about 15 months before her wedding day. She was an out of state bride (Texas) who was travelling alot and getting married in her home town (Atlanta).

After going through my portfolio's we decided to tweak one of my popular scroll designs by adding a thin black ribbon at the base. Now, add hot pink floral to the top and you've got an elegant cake. (At least that is what Sydney's aunt called it ... elegant).

The groom cake was a surprise (to the groom). It was my version of his family's sailboat ... Fiddler's Green. When Joel saw it, he was thrilled and very thankful. Especially seeing the little Beagle riding at the bow.

I've seen a sneak peak of their wedding photo's on Janet Howard Studio's blog .... gorgeous. Can't wait to see the cake photo's.

Our first of two deliveries of the day:
What is black, white, and red? This couple's wedding cake, that's what !!!

Marianna came to her appointment with photo in hand, her cake would look contemporary and elegant at the same time. When we arrived at her reception site, I learned that there were no extra flowers available for the cake. This cake looked bad without floral, so I inconspicuously snipped 5 roses from centerpieces and placed them on the cake per the original order. Those flowers brought the cake to life.

Eileen, why do you take a photo of your cakes? 1. To have proof of what the cake looked like when I left the reception site, just in case something happens to it.

When I finally (just last week) got to see the professional photo's of the cake, the design had changed a good deal. There was now a cascade of red roses on the cake .. where did those come from? Who put them on cake? It was not the design that the bride and I had discussed.

Turns out, they did have extra floral after all from the bridemaid bouquets and the extra floral was placed on the cake. I don't plan to purchase the pro shot because it's not the cake I designed ... Although the bride was very happy and loved her cake (both in looks and flavor), I loved the cake as originally designed.

Katie was my first customer meeting in 2011 (1/3/11). She had a good idea of what her cake was to look like. It would be a hexagon shape, hydrangea on each tier ranging from light (top) to the darkest hue (bottom), and the exterior icing would have little flecks of vanilla bean ... what? All of my brides want that smooth white finish .... not Katie ... and I'm thrilled she wanted something different !!! It felt odd for me to create a "dirty" cake ... flecks of vanilla bean all over that cake ... but it looked awesome. I also recreated a cake topper that had been in the family for years ... it was very old and disintegrating. So, the bride and groom topper was placed on a new base, the old floral was removed and replaced with hydrangea to mimic the range of color on the wedding cake. It was a perfect match.

I wish Katie and Adam many years of happiness.

Our 3rd and final delivery of the day and boy was I tired. Too many cakes.

Haley and Jeff met with me the first time in early October ..... after a couple of months of emails with no commitment, I assumed they were not interested and took them off my list and moved on to other brides for their date and time frame. In early December, they contacted me again. I had discarded their original paperwork so we had to start over .. and we did. By mid-December their contract was drawn up and they were once again, back on my schedule.

I had never been to the Red Brick Brewery ..... when I first walked in to their lounge area I thought it small for a wedding reception ... but I was then ushered into the room where they actually brew the beer. Much larger, and once they shut the receiving door I assumed it cooled down quite a bit. Their staff was very helpful.

The bottom three tiers of the wedding cake were 6 inches in height (3 layer cakes) ... the top tier was a two layer (4 inches). A flat finish, ribbon, and silk floral turned it into a contemporary look. Nice.

Jeff was a major Georgia Tech fan ....... Buzz was appropriate. I love drawing Buzz.

Haley and Jeff have moved to Illinois, but I'm sure they will be visiting Atlanta around their first anniversary and I will be happy to create their first anniversary cake for them. They are an adorable couple and I wish them much happiness.

This was our second of three deliveries of the day. Love going to Park Tavern (I go often), but it's tough going to the garden tent on a 96 degree day. After we arrived and noticed how soft (from the heat) the cake was getting, it was only then that they put the air conditioning unit on ..... everything turned out fine anyway and hopefully cooled down a bit for the reception.

This 5-tier beauty was stunning, the design was taken from fabric that the bride provided. Hot pink and black were her colors.

The groom was a fan of Georgia Tech ... I think
this was the smallest version of Buzz that I've ever drawn.

DETAIL SHOT of the DAY:
As I was leaving the venue, I noticed their version of a guest book. It was a framed tree print .. remember that their colors were black and hot pink .... I didn't notice a hot pink ink pad, but guests were to place their thumbprint on the tree ... I'll ask the bride about this ... thought it was very unique.

From the Coordinator to the Security Guard ... I love the Wimbish House. It's a little tough for vendors to get in and out of, but worth it.

This was my first of three deliveries of the day. Rene met with me back in February ... simple and elegant was her theme and you can't go wrong with her cake design ..... it was elegant ... highlighted with her monogram on the second tier and carefully placed peonies.

Now the groom cake ... she wanted something to represent a house divided, so we went with a football divided ... half Georgia; half Auburn. Wasn't sure how to photograph this cake, so glad I had 35Atlanta handle it for me.

This was my first time to this venue. Loved it.

This family had two daughters marry within 8 months of each other ... I did Paige's wedding back in September 2010, and now it was time for Heather's wedding. Royal Blue and Yellow are an awesome color combination .... add different designs on each tier and then offset each layer and you've got one good looking cake. LOVE how this came out.

The groom cake has got to be one of the most unique things I've ever done. The bride brought me this idea and it's great for those grooms who have more than one interest in life. In Derek's case, he loved baseball ... hunting ... camping ... and motorsports. Each tier represents all of his interests. Got lots of compliments on this cake when it arrived and continue to do so.

One of the main reasons why Susan wanted to meet with me, was that she fell in love with my blog ... I was on the fence about whether to get rid of the blog and go to a website, but after her comments, was convinced to continue the blog and create a website with general info that pointed to the blog (in the works).

You've got to love Chateau Elan ..... this was my first time back to Chateau after renovations to the Wine Pavillion. They did a great job.

LOVED this couple. Both Susan and Ted are very relaxed people who are totally in love with each other. So much fun.

The bridal cake was tall and elegant .... check out the Kiwi Bird cake topper. This particular topper was on Susan's parents cake and is the national bird of New Zealand. (Susan's dad was from New Zealand, married a nice gal from Boston).

The groom cake .... the cake decor was a gift from Susan's sister ... Ted does hunt, so it was perfect that his bride drag him from hunting to get married.

DETAIL SHOT of the DAY !!! Were these adorable toasting glasses placed by the groom cake. Not sure who made them, but I just loved them.

There is not one thing wrong with mixing peacock feathers and floral and placing them on/around your cake !!! It's a mazing. The colors are so vibrant you can choose from a wide range of colors to accent with ... light/dark teal - light/dark amethyst - black. Tiffany chose amethyst as her accent color for the cake. So I bordered each layer with an amethyst ribbon and then placed floral and peacock feathers here and there. Check out the feather wreaths at the base of the cake ... AWESOME.

Now the groom cake was a first for me .... Michael is a dentist, so naturally he requested a cake that resembled a molar. Loved how it came out.

I don't know who was looking forward to delivering this cake more ... me or my assistant, Becky. I was thrilled to have been given the opportunity to create this cake ... not just for the design (so contemporary; so different), but for the location .... The ZOO !!! They married in the Panda Pavillion, had cocktails with the Gorilla's, then went back to the Panda's for the reception .... how cool is that !!!

Kristen knew exactly what she wanted her cake to look like and I hope I didn't disappoint her. Black and white were her colors ... the Panda's were black and white ... her wedding party wore black and white .... and the cake was black and white (and looked great against this red wall). We were a little disappointed with the floral ... thought they were going to be much larger in size ... but it still came out just fine. The design was a bit contemporary, yet it looked elegant at the same time.

The cake was presented on a black 16" tile .... go ahead, try to find one. You can't !!! So I made it. Purchased a 16" tile (brown), primed it, and painted it with Glossy Black. Not too shabby !

As I was setting up the cake, I noticed some sawdust on the tablecloth ... so I would brush it off and continue set up. The sawdust appears again ... again I would brush it off. The third time it happened, I decided to look up .... to Boring Bee's who were boring into the wood above. One mention to Andrea (Zoo Atlanta) and she called in a wonderful maintenance man who came and filled up those holes so no more sawdust would get near the cake. AWESOME response! Thank you Zoo Atlanta.

So after the cake was all set up, Clay, Becky and I headed out to see just a little portion of the Zoo .. we started with the Panda's. This handsome guy was just chillin'. Becky was waving to him, expecting him to wave back (not). Other than a scratch here and there .. he didn't move. We saw a white peacock, red kangaroo's, and a calico (red/black/blond) hog .. and pink cockatoo's .

This was a delightful way to end April !!! Thank you Kristen and Spin. Wishing you my best.

Kristina and Greg chose one of my favorite designs for their cake. They did change it a little by making the middle layer taller than the top and bottom. This cake comes out gorgeous all of the time, no matter what venue, no matter what floral is chosen ... it's timeless.

It has been a while since bringing a cake to Magnolia, so it was good to get back to this venue. It's always a delight to see how differently this facility gets decorated.

I met with Eve and Larry back in October ... their wedding colors were green and hot (fuscia) pink and those colors were prominent with the cake (and her shoes ... hot pink ... AWESOME).

Larry's groom cake was originally going to be the face of UGA ... but a couple of weeks ago, he decided that he wanted to showcase his Irish heritage. Being Irish myself, that was not a problem. This cake design is a celtic cross and the design happens to be on his arm. Loved how it came out !!!

I arrived to pick up my plateau at the end of their evening to watch the bouquet and garter toss and listen to their last dance .... a vintage Rolls Royce was waiting to whisk them away.

Tatiana and I have one thing in common .... our maiden name ... Robinson. There is no relation however. She's Russian ... I'm Irish; She's incredibly tall ... I'm vertically challenged.

Tatiana and Kirk met with me back in February. They were making plans for a small intimate wedding and reception. The Monte Carlo Ballroom at Chateau Elan was perfect for their event.

An all-over scroll design combined with a cascade of roses made for a pretty cake.

The wedding was to be on the Matise Lawn at 6:00p .. but Mother Nature had other plans and brought in wind, rain, hail, thunder and lightning. So the wedding was moved inside. That didn't dampen their spirits ... when I arrived later to pick up the plateau everyone was laughing, dancing, and having a wonderful time.

Check out this cool table detail by the staff of Chateau Elan ..... I loved it and couldn't resist taking a picture.

There had been lots of construction on the highway as you head toward Atlanta, so I thought it best that we leave a little early. As luck would have it ... we arrived early to the reception site. No problem ... gave us time to walk through the Gallery. They weren't ready for us anyway and still had to place a rug and seating area and of course the cake table. Instead of waiting 30 minutes however, we waited 1 1/2 hours and finally got to begin working on the cake which was certainly a centerpiece of the reception. I wish I could have had more time placing floral, but we did pretty good getting it up and decorated in 48 minutes.

Jadideah and Ken .... a lovely couple, easy going, lots of fun and wanted their guests to be comfortable and have a great time. Moe's, Varsity, and Krispy Kreme Donuts were just some of the "vendors" supplying food items throughout the entire evening. When I went back at 10:00 to pick up the plateau, they were waiting on Krispy Kreme to get there with some HOT donuts ..... YUM.

The Gallery was such a unique venue to hold a wedding reception ... there was something to see in every nook and cranny that I'm sure kept their guests wondering what was around the next corner.

I got to chat with Jadideah towards the end of her special night ..... she looked lovely and very happy. Ken was no where to be seen ... probably on the dance floor which was rockin'.

Well, after a week of rainy weather ... it felt great to be traveling to south Georgia (Ashburn) in full sunshine.

I had no idea what to expect when we arrived at Quails Landing, but let me tell you ... I was completely surprised. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. A beautiful lake is the backdrop to an outdoor wedding; there are gorgeous scultures here and there, and even a lodge to stay in.

I found Justin W. (the photographer) around 3:00p by the lake and went to chat with him. He pointed across the lake to a horse (clydesdale) and buggy carrying what would be the future Mrs. Foy. When Desiree arrived and got down from the buggy .... Clay, Becky, and myself ... were tearing up, as she looked absolutely exquisite.

Desiree came to meet with me almost a year ago. Her cake shape was a little different and her floral arrangement for the top cake was very unique. She wanted an off-white icing for the exterior and I should have darkened it a little more, but it still came out great. Pretty pink calla lillies were placed on top with a bow to match the ribbon border. It looked contemporary, yet elegant. Loved it!

Mike's groom cake was a new design for me .. I've done plenty of University of Georgia cakes, but this was the first time for this particular design. Even Clay said I did a pretty good job with the design ....

Tina (I did her groom cake and favors last year) ordered chocolate cake pops and chocolate covered oreos for a baby shower she was working on. I received a lovely note from her ....

"Eileen, thank you so much for the wonderful Oreos and Cake pops! They were a huge hit yesterday. Those cake pops were to DIE for! LOL Everyone kept asking where I got them...So I spread your name all day yesterday!

When Tina ordered her groom cake and favors last year, we did everything by email ... and I had a friend make the delivery for me ... so when she came to pick up this baby shower order it was great to finally get to meet each other .... in person.

One of my favorite brides (Ashley) from a couple of years ago was in charge of getting the cake for a baby shower for her friend Cayce ... it was an almond cake filled w/ bavarian cream. The design was my carriage cake .. everything's edible except for the bow. The wheels are made of white chocolate (YUM). Aside from getting to see Ashley again .. she brought her daughter for me to meet. Delaney Jane is as cute as a bug and I'm looking forward to babysitting soon.

and the baby showers keep coming ....

Leslie ordered a vanilla cake for the shower she was coordinating for a friend of hers ... instead of the carriage cake, the mother to be requested something with tutu's and bows ..... I think it came out adorable.

Alex travels alot so Albert was the one to contact me and came for the tasting. Blue and Purple were her favorite colors, so Albert requested a three tier cake, iced in baby blue with a purple cascade. At her request, he was even wearing (and actually found) a baby blue tux. The ceremony was to take place at Shorty Howell Park here in Duluth at 1:00pm.

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of this cake .... At Albert's request, it was baked, iced, boxed and delivered to Albert at his home. This bride got cold feet and I feel awful for Albert. He kept telling me ... "It's ok Ma'am, I've put it in God's hands".

I hope Albert finds his true love one day .... and when he does, I'll be waiting for the phonecall to put him on my schedule ... once again.

What do you get when you take a country club setting, add the largest full moon (supermoon), and an adorable couple ? You get one incredible wedding.

When I walked into the Grand Ballroom it looked beautiful already. The band had arrived and were setting up, and the florist had dropped off the cake floral. I looked to my left to see an assortment of "southern" sweets and a candy bar ... then noticed the table centerpieces .. in lieu of flowers, this couple ordered an 8" cake (from another vendor) for each table to serve as the centerpiece - a great idea ... (not ordering from another vendor, but using a cake as a table centerpiece). Now I understand why the initial wedding cake order decreased. They had plenty of dessert. : )

Speaking of cake ..... an all over scroll design was ordered for the wedding cake with white hydrangea and pink bunch roses here and there. It looked soft and elegant.

The groom is a huge Cincinnati Reds fan ... we were originally going to do a different logo on a cake, but a couple of weeks before the wedding, it was changed to this 3-d version of the mascot. It came out adorable and I hope he was pleased. The only thing NOT edible was the hat (and the hydrangea).

These were the cake centerpieces provided by another baker ... again ... great idea (not ordering from another vendor, but the cake as a centerpiece is a great idea)!!!

This one pulled at my heart string ..... it was a tough wedding for me ..... not the cake ... that was easy .... but creating the cake for this particular couple was a little difficult. Many years ago, the groom and I were an "item" .... first loves ... engaged at age 18 ... and then I broke his heart.

Well, the years went by, he married, had children, divorced .... and then one day, he met Zelda ... and found love all over again.

I had spoken to Zelda a time or two .... but didn't get to meet her until her wedding day. She was very gracious and welcomed me with a big hug. She wanted a simple cake, yet requested a full cascade, so with the help of some gorgeous spring floral ... that's what she got.

As Gramps once said to me ... "you may have never married into this family, but you will always be part of this family" ... and that is just the way I went into this one ... as part of the family. I got to see and spend time with my dear friend, Lee (Mark's mom) and her whole family (with the exception of one son who was sorely missed). Clay and I had a wonderful time .... we laughed ... I cried a little ... and when it was all done and over with, I knew that I was in the right place with the right person.

I couldn't be happier for them. They make a fabulous couple and I wish them much love and happiness for the rest of their lives.

Everyone kept asking how I was handling this ... and I think it was more difficult for Clay, who made a point to hold me close at every opportunity.

This was my first visit to The Georgia Club ... I was very impressed with the venue, but more importantly the staff. They were all professional, helpful, and smiled. They take pride in what they do and it really shows. I hope to get the chance to bring another cake up there in the near future.

It rained pretty much all day ... but that didn't dampen this event at all, I'm sure. I've seen a few candid photo's of this wedding on facebook and in every single picture of Leigh Ann ... she had the biggest smile. All of her hard work planning this wedding paid off. She couldn't do anything about the rain, but it was her marriage to Jeremy that was the sunshine of the event and it came through her smile.

Leigh Ann originally wanted a hot pink cake with black details .... then it changed to a white iced cake with hot pink detail (swirls) ... then it changed to white with black swirls and hot pink floral. With any combination .... it was going to be a very pretty cake.

I heard from Jeremy and he didn't want to cut his groom cake ... it looked so good ... and he didn't even get a piece of it. : (

I've been creating McCain Childress' cakes all of her little life. Her 5th birthday was celebrated in grand style ... a Toy Story birthday featuring Jessie. There were crafts, games, real pony rides, and a special appearance by Jessie.

Ramey is another special little girl in my life who I've had the pleasure of creating her birthday cakes also. Ramey spent her birthday with friends at Monkey Joe's, but insisted on a Hello Kitty cake.

All brides are beautiful ... but Christy sure took the prize this weekend. She was stunning and looked so calm and sure of herself as she walked toward Jack.

I met Christy back in May of 2010. Simple and elegant was what she wanted her cake to look like. A grey ribbon bordered each tier with a wide spaced single dot design. Pink and white bunch roses (also known as tea roses) were placed here and there.

The groom cake .... now that was fun to create. A combination of tuxedo, plain white and chocolate, and drizzled strawberries were placed all over this two tier fudge iced creation. YUMMY !!!!

Kelly came in with a particular design in mind, she wanted red detail; I talked her into white detail; you can see who won ... : ) I think her cake came out gorgeous, I just love the feather details, and when I went back to pick up the plateau and the end of her evening, there was no cake left (which is a great compliment) and everyone commented on its taste and beauty.

I got to see Jocelyn about a week before her wedding ... she was so very excited. When I asked her to describe her reception she said: think of snow, icicles, glitter/sparkles, white. It sounded so dreamy. She was having minimal "floral" pieces .... she would carry a bouquet of fresh floral; but her girls would carry muffs. I couldn't wait to see how they transformed the Egyptian Ballroom into a Winter Wonderland .....

When I arrived, Carla Duncan (florist) had placed crystal trees, long white sheer drapes, lit crystal filled vases topped with white plumes ... it truly was beautiful. I cannot wait to see the work of Ray and Erica (of 35 Atlanta). I'm sure they captured all of the beautiful features.

Jocelyn and Michael's cake was 5 tiers ... each tier was 1/2 almond and 1/2 chocolate cake, the unusual part of their cake was the filling. It was an authentic cannoli filling (with mini chocolate chips). When I went back to pick up the plateau, there was not a slice left and that is the best compliment I could ever get.

I work with ribbon on a lot of cakes ... but I had never worked with a polka dot ribbon ... let me tell you how cute it looked !!! Even the staff had commented on how cute the cake was. I used red roses and loops of ribbon to accent the cake.

CAUTION: When I asked the florist for the cake floral, she said the bride did not order any ... but did come up with a few roses for me to use. So, if you are planning to have floral on your cake, please make sure your florist knows to bring flowers for the cake !!!

Christi wanted to surprise JJ with a cake of his own ... the Clemson Paw. He saw it before the wedding and made sure to tell everyone what Christi had ordered just for him.

Wow! What a diamond in the rough this venue is. The venue space is leased to Bold American (caterers) and is such a different atmosphere .. think old brick, industrial ... I fell in love with the space. My brother was a guest at this wedding, so I got a real "review" from him/his girlfriend. They couldn't say enough good things about it.

Kristen and Marco got married in the same room as the reception, so I had to wait in the wings until they flipped the room (from wedding ceremony to reception) to set up the cake.

Kristen didn't want the "usual" placement of flowers on the cake, but did want a small cascade towards the top and a larger cascade towards the bottom on the front of the cake. It looked so pretty and I've received lots of nice comments (on facebook). If you can zoom in on the topper ..... it's tiny but oh so cute.

DETAILS: LOVED the table set up at this wedding ... not the usual round table ... all "estate" tables dressed in a beautiful silver linen with maroon runner. It was stunning.

I hadn't been to Olde Town for about three years, and had no idea that they had renovated their space. It is absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure Mr. Bob Cooper would be happy to show you around if you are still looking for a venue.

When I met Tammi back in September, she knew exactly what her cake was to look like ..... but after a few emails and sketches back and forth, she ended up with something completely different! It is MY FAVORITE cake of the year (so far). A grand 5-tier cake with black and silver scroll work to compliment the rich purple hand made gumpaste floral. Thanks go to Zoe Ruiz for making the floral for me (she says it's easy and promises to teach me how to do it one of these days real soon). I got a chance to see Tammi when she returned from her honeymoon and she was thrilled with how her cake came out.

Jon is from Alabama and is a Roll Tide fan and a chocolate fan. His groom cake was chocolate, filled w/ chocolate and frosted in chocolate. All of his friends told him it was the best chocolate cake they've ever had .. unfortunately, Jon didn't get to eat any! Tammi and Jon cut the wedding cake, but they didn't do a ceremonial "cut" of the groom cake and by the time he was ready to eat cake, there was no chocolate cake left !!! : )

DETAILS: I love Heather Oliver of Stylish Stems ... anything she does is spectacular. One special floral detail that I noticed on the way out was on a huge round table in the entry way. She took individual stems and placed them in individual vases, add candles and some rose petals and you've got one stunning entrance centerpiece.

This is my first wedding of 2011 and I'm pleased to announce that Stephanie and Adam's wedding cake photo will grace the cover of my 2011 portfolio for all to see.

First, let's talk about the groom cake. Adam is a rookie Fireman with Gwinnett County, Station #20. When we first talked about a groom cake for Adam, we were going to do a replica of his shield. Well, that got changed to a 3-d firetruck. With the help of another bakery (The Flour Shoppe) who specializes in fondant, (I don't do fondant) this adorable firetruck was presented to Adam and used at the rehearsal dinner.

The wedding cake was bordered with an eggplant colored ribbon and covered with the triple dot design. The unique piece about this cake was the placement of floral between the 8 and 10" layers. Now, when I saw the floral that I had to work with, I honestly was a bit disappointed as the floral looked old and a little wilted (especially the roses) ... but given the weather conditions leading up to this day (lots of snow/ice), it was a bad week for floral .. all around. So I did what I could with what I had to work with. It still came out nice.

DETAILS: I took a couple of shots of interest ...

First, the view from the ballroom. Water, Snow, Bright Sunshine. It was beautiful. I've seen a sneak peek of the outside shots, and they look amazing.

Second, these tall vases were lined with thin lemon slices. A huge ball of floral topped each vase. They looked beautiful.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!! The year 2010 was phenominal ... I ended the year with 80 weddings, but 2011 is destined to be better .. I did promise my husband some "eileen" time, so I'm not sure that I will do 80 weddings, but it still will be a great year!

Trends: Feathers still continue to be a hot accent and color plays a major role ... my goodness just wait until you see what my 2011 brides have planned.

Wedding season began in January for me (unusually early). With 31 weddings already scheduled for 2010 .. and two 2012 clients already, I am being asked for my information and tasting schedule daily.

The cover of my annual portfolio is saved for my first wedding cake of the year ... and I'm thrilled to announce that the Johnson-Rudnik Wedding (1/15/11) will grace the cover of my 2011 portfolio !!!

In an effort to grow my business in 2011, I'm going to try some new things:

Advertising: I've always said that word of mouth advertising is the best advertising .. and that has worked for me for a long time and still does, but I will continue as a paid advertiser with The Knot Wedding Network and partnering with three top wedding brands: The Knot and WeddingChannel, and Martha Stewart. I also advertise on Weddingwire and their affiliates.

Favors: In addition to the many cakes that are created, I would like to get into providing favors for your guests. These can be wedding favors / baby shower favors / birthday favors / etc. in the form of chocolate covered oreo's, cake pops, cookies, etc.

Eileen (aka The Cake Lady) - my Cake Lady nickname was given to me by my past clients .. and it has stuck. I've been baking cakes for 25+ years ... I worked for a major corporation for most of those years, able only to create as time permitted. Until 2004 when I returned home from my honeymoon and got the word that they didn't need me anymore. So I created Eileen Carter Creations and haven't stopped yet. I absolutely LOVE my job.

Clay (The Cake Wrangler) - without his love and support (and brawn) I would not be The Cake Lady. He arrives with a smile and makes all around him smile. He's a hugger ... and often while I'm working on a cake, he can be found giving hugs to his favorite florists, coordinators, and/or photographers.

Becky Hall - (Cake Lady's Assistant) - a good friend and ready to lend a hand at any time. She often accompanies Clay and I to our weekly wedding destinations, she's not afraid to wash a dirty mixer bowl or clean up after a fun filled cake week.

November gave me opportunity to shine ..... the month started with the JoannaCare Celebration ... it was a combination celebration of Joanna's 25th birthday and the start of the JoannaCare organization.

I got to meet some sweet newborns .. born to past clients. Created Sophie's Christening cake. Sophie should have been a boy (the way her mom was carrying). Was shocked to learn she was a girl ... but absolutely adorable, nonetheless.

Sydney ..... sound asleep when I delivered her baby dedication cake.

Mickey and Minnie cakes were plentiful in November as well.

The Biltmore Ballrooms require tall, stunning cakes ... the ceiling height alone dictates a large cake. Large cakes require a large plateau. What do they say: Hindsight is 20/20 ! Well, I wish this wedding cake was placed on a 22" instead of the 18" that was provided by the caterer. I wish the groom cake was placed on an 18" plateau rather than the 22" provided. Lesson: double check with whomever is providing the plateau to ensure it is the proper size for your cake.

Amelia was referred to me by one of my 2009 brides (Karla V) and we met back in August of 2009 for her November 2010 wedding ... planning way ahead ! She wanted an elegant cake so we designed this 5-tier alternating quilt and dot design. The entire cake was sprinkled with edible glitter. A little floral touch at the top was all that was needed.

Riley's cake was not the typical "Georgia Tech" design ... but one that I had created just once in the past. The Georgia Tech Seal.

Beth had a gorgeous dot and damask theme going on for her wedding. So for her cake we alternated a single dot design with a damask pattern. Add a thin black ribbon at the base and red floral and this is the result.

Oscar is a major Falcon fan .... this was the first time I had "cut out" the falcon and I think it came out great. In fact, the wait staff kept going over to it and taking pictures.

Who knew that November 6th was going to be as cold as it was .... I remember setting up the cake and looking out at the lawn where the girls were having their photo's taken ... they looked so cold.

I've known Richard for a few years now ... he works for the same company as Clay's ex-wife and daughter. So when Richard and Katy began to plan their wedding, I got a phone call.

Katy's design choice for her bridal cake was perfect .... I think it turned out elegant .... just a hint of floral color at the top.

Richard's groom cake design was expected ... he (like Clay's daughter) LOVES Notre Dame !!! Instead of the fighting Irish Leprechaun, he went with the ND logo. It came out great.

JoannaCare Gala - November 4th, 2010

On May 3, 2008 I had the honor of creating the wedding cake for Joanna Reid and Evan Gottschalk. Their wedding and reception was held at Park Tavern's Garden Tent.

Joanna is now a twenty-four year old young woman. She struggles with the effects of several neurological conditions, a connective tissue disorder, and an immune system deficiency. After over forty surgeries and the majority of the past year in the hospital, she struggles daily with the knowledge that at some point her medical bills could bankrupt her family. While Joanna's medical situation is very unique, her struggle with medical insurance and large hospital bills is not.

A group of individuals who love Joanna recognized the urgency of the situation and decided to plan some fundraisers to defray the cost of Joanna’s health care for the time she would be without insurance. However, the more they researched the more they realized that something bigger was needed. Joanna wanted to carry this mission much further than herself, and thus, JoannaCare, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization was created.

I had the distinct privilege of having been asked to create the cake for the JoannaCare Gala which was held Thursday, November 4th at Park Tavern's Garden Tent. I'll post professional pics as soon as I can, but until then my photo will do.

I worked with some of the finest vendors out there .... Shannon Wright of Photography by Shannon (www.shannonseye.net); Ally Haggerty of Unforgettable Soirees (www.unforgettablesoirees.com); Carla Duncan of On Occasions of Atlanta (www.onoccasionsofatlanta.com) to name a few. Together I hope we provided Joanna and approximately 200 guests a memorable evening.

Had plenty of weddings to keep me busy in October .... here are a few of the "extra" cakes done.

Hayden celebrated her 9th birthday with a Rock "Climbing" Star theme ... her color scheme was purple, hot pink, and a little black. I should have taken a photo of the cake table .... everything matched perfectly. Happy Birthday, Hayden.

I'm not supposed to have "favorites", but ..... one of my favorite brides from a couple of years ago, gave me the unique opportunity a couple of months ago to be the first person to know if she and Joe were having a baby boy or a baby girl. My task was to bake a cake and color the batter either pink or blue ... frost it white ... and when the grandparents-to-be cut into the cake, only then did they find out Ashley and Joe were expect a little GIRL !!! Well, it was time for (one of) her baby showers and I was asked to create a cupcake tree decorated in purple and green. I can't wait to meet Miss Delaney Jayne on/around November 30th !!!

Karibeth had a ghostly Halloween party, so this adorable ghost cake served as her centerpiece (as well as dessert). Her favors were ghost oreo's nestled in candy corn. Too cute.

I will always have one very special thing in common with this couple. Our wedding anniversary is the same. Clay and I married 10/23/04 ... Molly and Derek married 10/23/10.

A private residence was the site of their wedding and reception. Picture fall colored leaves on trees, a meadow large enough to land a plane, an old barn/hanger in which to hold your reception .... top that with a gorgeous blue sky autumn day and you've got a great wedding and reception.

Molly and Derek met with me back in April .... Loved their cake design idea, but got excited about their cake topper. I created it using gumpaste and loved how it came out.

Amanda Swain and Brandon Barron chose Primrose Cottage as their reception site. When I returned to pick up some cake items, I got a rare chance to see my brother, Jim and his best girl, Kay (who were guests at the wedding).

Amanda wanted an "old fashioned" icing technique ... I remember my mom frosting cakes in this same way. Amanda was concerned that this technique would not show up in photos .... on the contrary, this design has so many nooks and cranny's that it shadows and photographs very well.

Heard that the entire cake was eaten ... that makes me very happy.

Cavender Castle is in Dahlonega, GA. The picture of this castle is deceiving .... it's a bit smaller in person and plan to use something other than skinny high heel shoes to walk the grounds and parking lot. I felt like I was aerating the ground. If you like knights in shining armor mixed with antique hats/fans/lace/and lots of nicknaks ... you'll love this venue. I was not only a vendor, but a guest at this wedding .... if you would like my full review of this venue, just let me know.

Kristi Jenkins and Mark Conde chose one of the most popular dates to marry .... October 10, 2010 .... 10/10/10 !!! Kristi traveled to Atlanta (from Colorado) and I got to meet with her about two weeks before the wedding. She knew exactly what her cake was going to look like. She wanted a big cake, but had the need to feed a small amount of people. So, a couple of fake layers were used. I was quite pleased with how this came out.

Kristi and Mark are back in Colorado packing to move to Germany. I wish them both my best as they begin their life together as husband and wife.

This was my second delivery of the day. Clay and friend Delores delivered this one for me .... while I with friend Becky arrived from Big Canoe in time to set it up.

Lori Anderson and her mom visited me back in July. Lori (and Dustin Robinson) had chosen The Vinings Club as the site of both the wedding and reception. I love the view from the Club ... it's a surprisingly beautiful shot of the Atlanta skyline.

When setting up cakes at The Vinings Club, I always have to remember to bring my ladder .... the cakes are almost always set up on top of a gorgeous grand piano ... I am only 5 feet tall and the top of the piano comes to my shoulders. One of the many obstacles in my vertically challenged world. : )

Lori's cake was a combination of dots and scrolls and a handwritten monogram painted in silver.

Dustin's groom cake was the Duke Devil ... so handsome. : )

I wish I knew someone who had a cabin or home at Big Canoe ... just to be able to walk around and check out all of the nooks and cranny's that I get only a glimpse of as I'm delivering cakes. The Chimney's at Big Canoe was chosen as the site of Christine Rivard and Dave Brust's wedding and reception. Their weather was perfect.

We met back in April ... Christine wanted to incorporate two colors of her wedding into the cake ... dark brown with a hint of mossy green. A little band of moss green peeped out of the top of a large band of dark brown ribbon ... add a wide spaced single dot design, a bead border, and beautiful floral .... and you get a pretty classic cake.

Best wishes to Christine and Dave ... See you next year (for your anniversary).

Thursday is a very unusual day for a wedding. If you are still deciding on a date for your wedding, look at a Thursday or Sunday ... I believe venues tend to give a bigger discount.

Heidi Nuber and Ruben Maestre chose Roswell River Landing for their wedding and reception ... and what a great day it was ... 78 degrees, blue sky, light wind ... absolutely gorgeous.

Heidi and Ruben met with me back in January .... gosh, October seemed so far out at that time. Believe me, it got here fast !!! Heidi wanted cupcakes ... so 10 dozen were baked ... all different flavors/fillings (see bottom of this post). The cupcake tree was decorated with deep purple ribbon .... Angie of Birch Blooms provided the gorgeous purple hydrangea that I used to decorate the tree.

About a month before the wedding, Ruben decided he wanted a groom cake, but not the typical groom cake. Ruben wanted a Krispy Kreme donut cake. I love creating donut cakes ... they are so different and smell (and taste) so darn good. Not to mention, once guests realize what it is made of .. they just can't wait to dig in. He only wanted a total of 3 dozen donuts, so I was a little limited with the size, but still think it came out great.

In addition to the many wedding cakes created, September has been such a great month for "fun" cakes.

First, Miss Bella celebrated her 5th birthday with an Ice Cream Sundae theme. On the top of her cake I used waffle cones to make a bowl, then filled the bowl with little cakes (choc/van/s-berry). This came out so cute.

Speaking of cute ..... Mr. Brady celebrated his 1st birthday with a turtle theme. LOVE his little smash cake !!!

Family friend, Frank celebrated his Big 5-0. Cupcakes were in order.

Next, Joellyn requested a couple of items ... first, these adorable cupcakes for a pool party ... a little blue icing, some gummy ring, animal crackers and little umbrellas.

Three cousins were together to celebrate their birthdays ... Margaret - Greta - Rucker. The cake was created using their favorite colors. Love how the lettering came out on this one.

To close out the month, Hudson celebrated his 1st Birthday with many friends and family around. His mom suggested a Sock Monkey theme. Loved how this cake turned out.

Paige Scott and Josh Jackson chose Reunion Hall in Hoschton as the site of their wedding and the reception. It is a lovely facility. The buildings leading up to the hall remind me of Boston (my home town).

Sunday was a gorgeous day .... while the bride and her court were outside having photos taken .. the boys were in the reception area watching the Falcon's kill their opponent.

Paige Scott designed a beautiful cake of alternating single dot and quilt designs. Ivory icing with ivory ribbon at the base highlighted with light pink gerbera daisies .... sorry for the poor shot of the cake, I must have moved.

The Grooms cake ... now that was special. Josh is a major Falcons fan, so this two tiered cake had to have the falcon logo ... then we added strawberries in red/white/black "jerseys". GO FALCONS !!!

Jen fell in love with the "fat dot" design ... so here is her "fat dot" cake with Navy ribbon at the base. If you look close at the cake topper (yes, there really is one on the top of the cake) ... it's an acrylic heart etched with their names and wedding date.

For the groom cake, Chris wanted to show his faithfulness to his DAWGS .. so the Georgia "G" was in order. So sorry they lost their game that day! : (

Remember ... if you have plenty of wedding cake, you can always use the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner. This is what Rob and Kelly chose to do. This Golf Ball cake with picked up on Thursday and brought to Maggiano's (Perimeter) for all to enjoy.

Kelly Travis and Rob Smith chose Anthony's Fine Dining as the site of their reception ... I've never had the opportunity to dine at Anthony's but have heard it is very good.

Kelly and Rob needed a "cutting cake" and cupcakes. A cutting cake is a little 6" cake made specifically for the "cake cutting ceremony". The Fat Dot design was chosen ... add a lovely arrangement on the top and you've got one pretty cake.

Bring on the cupcakes !!! 18 dozen to be exact ... Red Velvet, Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla. When I went back later that evening, the hot "flavors" were Red Velvet and Strawberry !!! Folks were taking them out of the box as I was helping pack the leftovers.

What a beautiful day Jordan and Cyrus picked for their wedding. Not too hot .. a nice breeze ... bright blue sky ... and when I went back later that evening to pick up the plateau .... everyone was outside in the back dancing and having a great time.

Roswell River Landing was chosen as the site of Jordan Joiner and Cyrus Firouzabadi's reception. It's a great venue. It's very "plain", so that means you can come in and decorate it any way you want. You can really show off your personality.

A pretty blue ribbon was added to the bottom of each tier along with the "fat dot" design. Thought the cake turned out real nice.

NOTE TO BRIDES: If you are paying your florist for cake floral .. please make sure your florist delivers and/or provides it !!! Otherwise I have to snip hear and there at your centerpieces to get enough floral for your cake.

This was an intimate wedding for an adorable couple. Syreeta Mangren and Dante McKay married at a private residence in McDonough on a Monday with close friends and family all around them.

I was introduced to Syreeta by one of my former brides turned forever customer, Nacirema. I met with Syreeta and Dante on August 10th and their wedding was six days later. Picking from the colors of their wedding invitation, we designed a simple yet elegant looking cake. Two tiers, springmoss and gold ribbons, and their monogram. I think it came out great.

Meghan McIntee and Matt Rachford married in the Grand Salon of The Fox Theatre ... their reception was across the hall in the Egyptian Ballroom.

Meghan and Matt met with me back in March. At the conclusion of our meeting we had decided on the bridal cake design .. alternating layers of dots and scrolls. Well, about a month later Meghan emailed me and described a new cake design that she had seen ... one with scrolls at the bottom of each layer and dots at the top of each layer. I love how her cake came out .. and now refer to this specific cake design as "Meghan". The full floral cascade added to its beauty.

Matt is a major Georgia Tech fan .... I love creating Buzz.

It's another basket o' berries for a significant birthday celebration ... instead of strawberries it's a basket of Raspberries (YUM). Chocolate cake filled with a layer of Raspberry and a layer of Raspberry Buttercream, covered in a chocolate buttercream basket and piled high with fresh raspberries

WEDDING: White-Williams, Taste Restaurant, 8/8/10

This was a very special wedding cake order for me. I met the bride a couple of years ago when I created her daughter Meryl's wedding and groom cakes. So, when Meryl called to tell me of her mom's engagement and subsequent wedding .... I was thrilled and honored.

Marcia White and Llew Williams met the same way Clay and I did ... on the internet !!! She lives here in Georgia; Llew lives in Florida .... now they live in both states. Marcia wanted a small intimate affair ... but her daughters insisted on a little more. So a little restaurant in Roswell called TASTE was reserved for this event.

This was TASTE's first event of many .... and I hope I'll have opportunity to serve them again.

Marcia loved Meryl's wedding cake design ... and although she tried to replicate it exactly, both Meryl and I convinced her to be a little different. So we ended up with a three tier cake, rounded edges (like Meryl's), a wide spaced single dot design and a "W" monogram centered on the 8" tier.

I wish every bit of happiness to Marcia and Llew and hope to see them again in the near future.

What a gorgeous day it turned out to be ... and an earlier wedding meant less heat and humidity. Flint Hill was the site of Kristi and Calin's wedding and reception. Kristi came to me by recommendation of Ally Haggerty of Unforgettable Soirees. She works for Ally so naturally, Ally was her coordinator. Good move!

Kristi loves the look of a fondant cake, but loves the taste of buttercream better. Her design changed a couple of times, but the end result came out great. I heard that not a crumb was left at the end of her day.

Park Tavern's Piedmont Room was the site of Michelle Deal and Aaron King's wedding ceremony and reception. None of the vendors could arrive until 4:00p as there was another event prior, but when vendors did arrive, the previous wedding had not cleared the venue yet causing a shorter prep time for Michelle and Aaron's venue. Everyone had to step it up, as I'm sure they did.

Michelle knew exactly what design she wanted for her cake .... Different width ribbons of hot pink and bright orange .. Different height cakes too. The top was 6" high; the next was 8" high, the next was 4" high, and the bottom tier was 6" high. Fuscia bunch roses were added making one spectacular cake.

Zoom in and check out the topper ..It's called "The Pinch". Too cute !

Aaron was all about Detroit !!! Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Tigers.

Gena Edwards and Mark Rice met with me back in May. I myself am only 5 feet tall .. so really anyone who walks thru my door is automatically taller than I am .. but really, Gene and Mark are the tallest couple that I have had the joy of meeting. Both are very sweet and you can see their love for each other.

After reviewing my portfolio, they agreed on a 5-tier round cake that was both simple and elegant, bordered in Navy ribbon and a wide spaced single dot design.

I never got to meet Aimee (the bride) .. we did all of our business through emails and were introduced by a mutual friend (Molly). Aimee and TJ were already married. Living out of state did not allow many friends/family to attend their ceremony, so they came to Georgia for their party (aka reception).

Aimee didn't want the traditional wedding cake, instead I baked nine (9) dozen red velvet cupcakes, topped with cream cheese icing (of course), and made a (red colored) chocolate heart for each.

What a great wedding to end my July with. This was my second trip to Barnsley Gardens ..... and each time we have run into some horrific thunder storms on the way up. I was glad to see however that the rain had come and gone so that CJ and Jim could stick with their original plan to marry at the ruins and party at the Town Hall.

When CJ Powell and Jim McCarthy met with me .... I felt very comfortable with them, like I had known them for years. Having looked through my blog prior to our meeting, CJ knew exactly which design she wanted. She brought with her a copy of the "The Best of ..." cake done a month earlier. Their reception was small in numbers and didn't need many servings, so with the middle tier Fake .. it only served 64.

I often tell folks that "I drive like a mad woman" when I deliver cakes ... well, after delivering this one, I was zooming down a straight open road and just ahead to the right was one of Adairville's finest ..... he flashed his lights to tell me to "slow it down, sister" .. and I did. :)

I wish CJ and Jim many happy years together. Thanks for allowing me to play such an important role on your special day.

Nothing makes that gorgeous cake more elegant than a silver cake stand. When you think of all the photos that are usually taken around the cake table of the bride and groom, the cake with the bouquets, the cake cutting, the toasting and so on, you will realize that the cake table usually turns into a central focus for the photographer.

WEDDING: West-Barto, Braselton-Stover House, 7/24/10

This was my first delivery to the Braselton-Stover House. It's worth looking into. Charming and elegant describes the historical Braselton-Stover House located in downtown Braselton, Georgia. Built in 1916 by Green Braselton, the second son born to the town’s founder, William Harrison Braselton, the house was purchased in December 2000 and faithfully restored to its current beauty and charm by Mary and Marvin Stover.

In addition to the historical house with its inviting wrap-around porch, is the 6000 square foot banquet facility that was completed in November 2008. It's gorgeous. Like the house, the new facility features period furnishings and is beautifully decorated. French doors open from the banquet hall onto the veranda overlooking the garden area.

I shouldn't have "favorite" couples, but Katie West and Burt Barto could be considered "favorites". When we met back in February, I realized that this was a couple meant for each other. Katie didn't want the normal "stacked" cake ... she went out of the box and we placed each cake on its own board and used covered elevation to showcase them. Navy ribbon and yellow/white floral finished each cake. It came out great.

Burt's cake was all his design. I have never seen a groom so excited about his cake as Burt was. He had a vision of a groom throwing a ball to his bride who was standing at home plate. It's called "Batter Up" !!! I sure hope he was happy with my interpretation of his cake design.

Katie works with my next door neighbor and I can't wait to hear all about their wedding.

My second delivery of the day was to The Peachtree Club. It's a little difficult to make deliveries (security was not around to unlock doors) but The Peachtree Club has recently gone through some renovations and it's quite lovely .. not to mention the view from the 28th (top) floor.

On our way to The Peachtree Club, we went through a nasty rain storm. Although the balcony had cover, I was hoping the storm would stay away and not rain on their wedding... but then again it wouldn't have dampened Jennifer and Brad's wedding at all.

Jennifer Lepchenske and Brad Etheridge are one of those couples who look good together and make a great team. I should really start taking pictures of my brides in their gowns .. she looked beautiful. We met back in March and after going thru my portfolio's decided to go with a simple yet elegant cake with streamers coming down on all four sides topped with their "E" monogram and white hydrangea.

The groom cake .... A House Divided ... Alabama vs Georgia. Came out cute !!!

This was my first visit to Vines Mansion in Loganville. The grounds are beautiful. I can see why photographers love this site.

Carla Bergeron and Will Ham ..... Carla called me on June 25th, we met on June 28th, and her wedding was July 17th .... I wouldn't recommend all brides wait that long to secure the cake vendor, but this time it worked out. Her delivery was scheduled for early morning (9:00) and that gave me more than enough time to pick up my next cake and head out the door. Perfect timing.

Carla was one of my brides who knew exactly what style cake she wanted .. dark purple and limey green were her colors. Hand-drawn icing scrolls and accents in purple and green extended from live floral clumps.

FUN CAKES: June 2010

In addition to 9 Wedding cakes, 5 Groom cakes, Wedding Oreo Favors, and Wedding Cupcakes (see the individual June weddings posts for details) .... the following cakes were created and kept me pretty busy.

What an honor it was to create a "gender reveal" cake for one of my favorite couples !!! Ashley and Joe are expecting and I was asked to bake a cake in either pink or blue so that they could present it to the grand parents to be to let them know if they were having a girl or a boy. The exterior icing was white with a simple pair of buttercream booties on top and the words "Welcome Baby". When they cut into it however, well, I'm pleased to announce that IT'S A GIRL and her name will be Delaney Jane (cute). She already has her daddy wrapped around her little finger.

Here's another baby (girl) shower cake ...

Millie picked up this cute Cat in the Hat cake for a baby shower. Millie is another "favorite" of mine ... always greets me with the best hug.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Faxon C. ... this year's party was a basketball theme. Can't believe he is 8 years old now.

WEDDING: Griffin-Casteel, Roswell River Landing, 6/26/10

Cathy Griffin and Robert Casteel chose Roswell River Landing as the site for their wedding and reception. It was a beautiful day and the river was providing the scenery and sounds that make the RRL a great venue.

Cathy and Robert are an active military couple, and do much for their community (volunteer fire fighter, red cross, etc). So when Jennifer Lackey of Storybook Weddings asked me to forward my information to them, I did. Cathy had no idea what design she wanted ... but certainly something simple with clean lines, yet elegant. After reviewing my portfolios, we decided on this three tier round cake on a square. Bordered in wine ribbon and adorned with large orchids. It came out great.

If you can zoom in on the topper, that was quite unique .... you'll see the bride and groom holding a heart .. well you put fragrance oil in the heart and it turns into a room freshener.

Thank you Cathy and Robert for giving me the opportunity to play such an important role on your special day.

I love delivering to Flint Hill .. you get in and out fairly easy, the cake table is ALWAYS set and ready to go, if I need anything all I have to do is ask and it appears ... and it's a short driving distance for me.

Flint Hill was the site of Stephanie Chappell and Scott McVicker's wedding and reception. I didn't get to see Scott, but sure did get to see Stephanie while she was having photo's taken. I have requested a shot of her in her gown so that you could see it .. it was magnificent and it was made specifically for her. Incredible.

Stephanie came to me with her cake design already figured out ... the top two tiers were tied with a bow, and the bottom full tier had the written words "You are the best thing". The very bottom layer was half the height as the others and in a contrasting color.

Scott is a major ESPN fan, so his ESPN cake was in order.

It was a mad dash from Chateau Elan to Magnolia Hall, site of Windy Caviness and Chris Reeves' reception. Luckily I had the cake delivered (by Liz) ahead of my arrival. All I had to do was construct it upon arrival.

Windy was one of those brides who knew exactly what she wanted. She came to me with a vision .... three tiers, Navy ribbon, spacers in between each tier. Add a monogram topper and some gorgeous orchids and you've got one unique cake. I named this cake "All Dressed Up ... with Attitude". I had never seen or done anything like it and was pleased at how it came out.

Windy and Chris also requested I create the favors for their event. My yummy chocolate covered oreos were dusted in silver, placed in white boxes with labels that Windy provided. I hope everyone liked them.

I wish Windy and Chris every happiness and look forward to seeing them for their first anniversary.

opportunities alone make reserving it worth it.

Randi Jackson and Ricki Pfrogner held their reception in the Elan Ballroom at Chateau Elan. I was so looking forward to creating this cake. I arrived on time, the cake table was not ready and was informed that the plateau was enroute. At 4:00p, when I should have been heading to Atlanta to deliver another cake, the "plateau" and floral arrived.

I made the decision to place my cake on this "plateau" only because "the bride fell in love with it when she saw it and had to have it". That will be the last time I will allow one of my cakes to be placed on a "plateau" that never should be considered a plateau. It was a bowl on a wrought iron stand. In all honesty .. this gorgeous cake leaned considerably. I think the photographer did an outstanding job and captured it at just the right angle. If I had to do it over again I would have insisted it be placed on a flat surfaced plateau and run the risk of disappointing the bride .. which I'm sure that is exactly what I did by going with her decision to use this wrought iron bowl/stand.

Lesson's definately learned !!!

The groom cake was quite unique and I seriously doubt will be recreated. It had the Virginia Military Institute on the top ... the sides were camouflaged and the strawberries were to represent the 4 branches of the armed services.

When I arrived I was greated by Beth of Stylish Stems who was anxious to see what cake design I was bringing in. Loved how the arrangement on the top cake came out ... Beth did a great job.

When The Knot's Best of Weddings 2008 issue hit the news stands, I'm sure I was first in line to get a copy or two as I was featured in it. The cover cake was gorgeous and how I wished I would have a bride that wanted that cake.

Well, on August 30, 2009, my wish came true. In walked Amanda Webster and Matt Morse. When I asked if Amanda had any idea of what her cake will look like, she produced the cover cake.

It was 98 degrees when I delivered this cake ... to Founders Hall in Roswell. When I walked into the ballroom, everything was black and white and aqua ... and so was the cake. It was one of my more difficult cakes to construct because of the height and weight of each cake, but it looked good when I left.

Matt is a Carolina Panther fan.
